About the Radical Kindness Project:

‘Over the past year, Covid-19 has upended everything about our lives. We have lost so much, and yet people and communities have come together to support each other through it. As much as Key Workers and the NHS, volunteers and communities have been at the heart of our crisis response and we want to mark and celebrate this.’

Commissioned by Action Together CIO, Radical Kindness Oldham is a participatory art project, Commissioning artists May Wild Studio to work remotely with Oldham Communities to articulate a celebration of day-to-day kindness and mutual aid within our communities. Through safe collaborative practice, the artists will work with local people to find the best way to mark the importance of this moment and the radical importance of everyday kindness. The final work might take the form of a 3d mural.

The stories we tell are powerful. Community kindness isn’t something you can easily fund or recruit for, it happens when people go against our apparent instincts and decide to trust and care about strangers. To grow and sustain this, we need to build the stories we tell each other about what happened in this unprecedented time. We should celebrate the power of kindness and the vital work of neighbours, communities and volunteers.
